Hi, Western Massachusetts high school students and parents. UMass Turing Summer Program is back for another year! We are looking forward to hosting you this summer of 2025. Find all the information below.
The UMass Turing Summer Program is for you, if:
- You are a high school student interested in using Computer Science and Technology for societal good.
- You want to learn about how computing can make people healthier and make our homes greener.
- You wonder how the fitness gadgets such as Fitbit and Apple Watch work.
Program Overview: The UMass Turing Summer Program is a three-week summer program for High School students interested in or would like to learn about Computer Science and how computing can address challenges in areas such as healthcare, security, energy, sustainability, and many others.
Intended Participants:
The program is specifically designed for entering tenth and eleventh graders (entering sophomores and juniors) at high schools in Western Massachusetts. A background in programming in a language such as Python or Java is desirable but not necessary. A high-school background in mathematics is assumed for this program.
Note: The program is primarily for local students who can commute to the UMass campus daily. We don't provide housing and transporation. Non-local students will be considered on a space-available basis.
Program Format/Schedule: The program features two classroom sessions and one lab session daily for three weeks and will expose students to sensing, data analysis, and visualization concepts. We offer a hands-on program where students will learn by doing, and the program will feature the use of signal processing and machine learning using Python and an intro to health sensing using Android apps.
